Explosions in the Sky – Your Hand in Mine August 29, 2007
Posted by admin in : Videos , add a commentIf you haven’t seen the film “Friday Night Lights” yet, I’d heavily recommend it. A gritty, realistic drama about American Football, focusing on a young team with the weight of expectation placed upon them, and how they deal with it. The acting is superb, the character development amazing. However, what stood out for me, was the music. All composed by Explosions in the Sky, who specialise in instrumental guitar music….a soundtrack that truly pulls you into the film.
After seeing it, I went out and got the soundtrack immediately, and afterwards soon bought all three albums by Explosions in the Sky. My single favourite piece of music is this 8 minute epic, which builds, and builds, and builds, and builds….
Matt Nathanson – Car Crash August 14, 2007
Posted by admin in : Videos , add a commentSometimes, just sometimes, I feel empty. I feel I should be doing something more with my life, something bigger, something more meaningful. And I don’t know what it is. And I don’t know how to start my search to find it. At these times, I tend to find meaning in music. And often, I find the words to describe perfectly how I feel.
Sometimes, I even find the answer.
I don’t know which one this is.
“I wanna feel the car crash, I wanna feel the capsize, I wanna feel the bomb drop, the earth stop, ’til I’m satisfied. I wanna feel the car crash, ’cause I’m dyin’ on the inside. I wanna let go and know that I’ll be alright, alright”
Tom McRae – Mermaid Blues August 14, 2007

“I’ll swim with you, until my lungs give out. Oh I can raise you from the deep, or drown with you in doubt”
Tom McRae – You Only Disappear August 14, 2007

Tom McRae – My Vampire Heart August 14, 2007
Posted by admin in : Songs, Videos , 2comments“Here we are, in the darkest place. To keep from forgetting, I picture your face. And I wonder, while we count the cost. Which is sweeter, love or it’s loss….so I curse you, my vampire heart, for letting me you love you, love you, for letting me love you, from the start….”

Willard Grant Conspiracy – The Trials of Harrison Hayes August 6, 2007
Posted by admin in : Videos , add a commentI was lucky enough to see the lead singer of Willard Grant Conspiracy, Robert Fisher, live last year. This video of Robert playing one of my favourite WGC songs live should give you a taste of what it was like….
Can you feel the hairs on your neck rise?
The National – Slow Show July 28, 2007
Posted by admin in : Videos , add a commentAnd from the same album (Boxer – if you haven’t bought it yet, BUY IT!), comes the song with my favourite lines of 2007…”You know I dreamed about you, for twenty-nine years before I saw you, you know I dreamed about you, I missed you for, for twenty-nine years”.
If someone said this to you, you’d be reaching for the sick bucket. However, Matt Berninger singing it in his heartbreaking Leonard Cohen-esque brings a very different slant to the proceedings…
The National – Apartment Story July 28, 2007
Posted by admin in : Videos , add a commentOne the most-played songs on my iPod at the moment. I’m really not sure – does this classify as a love song? “We’ll stay inside til somebody finds us, do whatever the TV tells us, stay inside our rosy-minded fuzz for days”. Vaguely romantic, mainly disturbing…
