G’Day, Missy.

With her thick Australian accent regularly shining through her songs, Missy Higgins manages to overcome the wonderful beach scenes and “shrimps on the barbie” thoughts that run through my head every time I hear an Aussie accent by creating songs of depth and feeling where her accent only serves to increase the impact of such lines as

I’ve hardly been outside my room in days, ’cause I don’t feel that I deserve the sunshine’s rays. The darkness helped until the whiskey wore away. And it was then I realise the conscience never fades.

And when her gorgeous Aussie inflection shines through on happier (but no less impactful) lines such as

And we will only need each other, we’ll bleed together. Our hands will not be taught to hold another’s, when we’re the special two.

…it leaves you not giving a Fosters XXXX about anything else.

A 25-year-old who has released two albums to date – both propelling her to ARIA awards (the Australian Grammy) as “Best Female Artist” in 2005 and 2007, and both being the highest-selling albums in Australia in their respective years – Missy…

Ah screw it – you didn’t come for her bio. Just listen to the songs. They’re gorgeous.

  1. I agree 100%. I love Missy Higgins and have been a fan of hers for years now. I can’t wait for her next album. To think that she is still so young… Not many have that much wisdom to spread at such a young age. I bet she’s been round before:)

  2. i love missy higgins .. I have for like 2 years now i think. I randomly stumbled on ‘secret’ on youtube and fell in love with her and her music. The special two is soo sweet; its mine and my gf’s song. I cried when i first hurt it.. lol

  3. i absolutly love missy higgins.first heard her in 2005 when was in aus and she had just released first album.saw her playing a small concert in darling harbour,it was free because she wasnt really famous!i even bought the piano sheet music for her songs so i could play them myself!!!!!would love to see her in concert again but unfortunately she hasnt really caught on in ireland :-(

  4. Got this site via a Facebook ad which i would usually find really annoying but thank you I did! I’ve been sat here for nearly an hour now listening to some amazing music that I’ve never heard before. I am such a sucker for sad music and if something can make me cry its a big hit – weird but true! Just listening to Missy Higgins – love it. Thanks.

  5. I used to listen to some of her songs, was a bit surprised to see an ad about her on facebook. I quite like the 2 songs posted.

    Thanks :)

  6. Hi, I got your link on Facebook :) I recently discovered A Fine Frenzy on YouTube and was in love so even since I’ve been trying to find similar artists but no success until now… thank you so much for your posts, I finally know which artists to look for in the stores…. can’t wait for tommorrow (I’m in Australia and it’s midnight here) to hit the shops with my new music list :)

    1. I LOVE to hear things like this :) I’m just happy to help people find more of what they already love…Let me know what you end up buying tomorrow!

  7. Got here via the Facebook ad too. And imagine my delighted surprise when I see that you love Kina Grannis ( very distinctive and gorgeous voice) and Steve Tannen ( Sing me to Sleep is an amazing song lyrically and musically) as well as better known (here) Sia and Missy Higgins.
I have to do All for Believing at a wedding soon so glad you reminded me by having on here.
